"The Second Passover Explained"
In recent years the ministry of The Church of God has said little about the Second Passover. It was not listed on Holy Day calendars and seldom mentioned in sermons---and never mentioned in TV broadcasts and literature. I remember a few years ago, a minister called me to ask how to calculate the Second Passover. For the first time in his ministry, he had a person in his congregation that inadvertently had missed the first Passover. (14th day of the first month). He knew about the Second Passover but was not sure how to calculate it. In recent years many newer members of The Church of God have never heard of the Second Passover. This situation exists because for many years the ministry of the Church failed to list it on Holy Day calendars or to teach this important Bible truth to the people. The Passover is the most important day of the year for a converted person. If he or she inadvertently misses the first Passover due to circumstances beyond their control, God had provided a “make up” Passover. The fact that God provides a make up day certainly emphasizes the importance of THE PASSOVER. Let us look at the BIBICAL INSTRUCTIONS for keeping the Second Passover. Numbers 9: 1-14 Verse 10--“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: If anyone of your posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover.” Verse 11--“On the fourteenth day of second month, at twilight, they may keep it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.” Remember we are keeping The New Testament Passover (accepting Jesus Christ as our Passover, 1 Corinthians 5: 7) We keep the Second Passover the same way we keep the First Passover. See 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. YOU ONLY KEEP THE SECOND PASSOVER IF YOU HAVE INADVERTENTLY MISSED THE FIRST PASSOVER.
