HOW TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

"And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master,

what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"

Matthew 19:16.

This is the first place in the Bible that "eternal life" is used.  And a young Jewish man asked Christ the question, that we all want to know the answer to!  What did Christ say? The answer is quite surprising.  He said, "...if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.  He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

That's a funny answer if Christ was getting ready to do away with the law as some try to teach.  The reason He told this young man to keep the commandments was because Christ came to bring repentance and salvation not only to Israel but eventually to the whole world.  Repentance and salvation go hand in hand.  You can't have one without the other.  Many people who claim to be Christians don't even know what repentance is, and it is the basis of true Christianity.  Christ came to call sinners to repentance and to eternal life.

"But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."  Matthew 9:13

Christ's purpose was not to gather up all the righteous people, it was to call sinners to repentance.  What exactly is sin?  The Bible is clear, it says that "Sin is the transgression of the law." (1 John 3:4 "Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.")

REPENTANCE IS THE BASIS OF TRUE CHRISTIANITY...Do you want to be a true Christian?

Luke 24:47 says "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."  Christ's job was to bring repentance of sin and the forgiveness of sin that comes with it.  He came to bring us into alignment with His way.  He came to lead human beings into eternal life....into the spiritual promised land.  Maybe this is why Christ said, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.  Now a slave has no permanent place (ETERNAL LIFE) in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:34-36

It's time for you to come out of the spiritual slavery of sin...  Repent of your sins and come out of spiritual Egypt.  Establish a covenant with the true God by remembering to keep all His commandments, including the commandment to remember the seventh day of the week which is the Saturday Sabbath.  Remember Christ's answer to the young rich man   "...if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
